In July 2006 the
Food, Metabolism & Microbiology Section of the
Food & Textiles
Group, AgResearch Ltd was officially launched. This Section
includes AgResearch MIRINZ-based teams focused on ensuring quality,
consistency, and safety of meat products. The Sections' focus areas
are Food Safety, Food Engineering, Microbiology, Meat Science, and
Nutrition and Metabolism. This Section is managed by Dr Warren
McNabb.
Dairy Science & Technology, the other Section of the Food & Textiles Group represented at MIRINZ, includes Non-Invasive
Measurement Technology and Bioprocessing. This Section is managed by
Dr Kerst Stelwagen.
AgResearch MIRINZ has gone
through significant change over the past 50 years, and the core
research areas have shifted accordingly. The
Past Achievements page illustrates
the wide scope of research carried out at AgResearch MIRINZ and with
it the breadth of knowledge that the organisation has generated, and
to some extent still retains. For more about the history of MIRINZ,
see the article by Doug Wright, a previous
Director of the institute.
The work at AgResearch MIRINZ
encompasses parts of the pastoral sector value-adding chain from
farm to fork, pasture to plate, and grass to glass.
